Story Description: Only 1 in 5 young people nationwide wait until they turn twenty to have sex. And three of the 20 people Carmen surveyed in her neighborhood said they had sex when they were under 12. Carmen wants to stay a virgin until she gets married. But TV, music and peer pressure all seem to be conspiring against her. Is virginity losing its value in our culture?

Mentor: Carmen's mentor is Matt Abramovitz. Matt is a freelance journalist. He is a scholar of Latin American history and studied radio journalism in college. Matt also works as an announcer at a jazz radio station.
