I am a sixteen-year-old Carib-American who resides in Jamaica, Queens. Though I live there and was born on Long Island, my heart will always be in Brooklyn. I live in a beautiful house with my mom, dad, 2 brothers and 1 sister. My family is my pride and joy. Aside from other things, I love shopping (which is why my story is about fashion), styling hair, reading, writing rhymes, dancing and most importantly having fun. I strive for my best in whatever I do and I look only for the best from others. This is my first experience with Radio Rookies and so far it has been memorable. Thanks for taking the time to read my bio. Feel free to leave any comments.

Interesting Fact: I like to put my feet behind my head and swing with my hands on the floor. This is my favorite exercise position. It's called "foot 'pon shoulders."

Story Description: Since she was little, Shakima has been dressing in style. She is proud of her fashion sense, but finds that as her family's finances have changed, it's been harder to keep up with the name brands she adores.

Mentor: David Krasnow worked in print for more than a decade before producing his first segments for WNYC's Studio 360 in April 2002. He has written about music and musicians for publications such as the Village Voice, Bomb, Artforum, The Wire, and the New York Observer. As a staff editor David immersed himself in subjects from furniture design to urban history to land use to the politics of health care. Rejected from being a radio rookie on grounds of age, he decided to mentor instead.
